Most notably, the four zero-day vulnerabilities that resulted in exploits affecting the on-premises Microsoft Exchange Server was a major challenge for organisations. Many were victims of these attacks and had to deal with ransomware and data exfiltration. These attacks were performed by multiple threat actors ranging from financially motivated cyber criminals to state-sponsored groups. Evidence suggests the attacks may have been successful as early as January 2021. One thing is certain, most organisations remain vulnerable to attacks and are not prepared.
